Adopt Don’t Shop
You will save a life.
In 2018 MSPCA rehomed 31 cats, 42 dogs, 16 kittens and 9 puppies, but that is not even close to how many animals end up in shelters, simply because too many animals end up in shelters and too few people are looking for adopting a pet.
The number of animals in shelters could be reduced dramatically if more people adopt and don’t buy them. When pets are adopted you are not just saving a life but also opening a space for another pet that needs shelfter. Each “cat space” at the MSPCA is used to help 6 or 7 cats a year rather than just one.
You will get a great animal.
Animal shelters are full of happy & healthy pets ready and waiting for someone or some family to take them home. Most of them will be already house-trained and already lived with a family.
Most of them are in shelters because of human problems such as, Lifestyle changes: People losing their job, getting a divorce/sepration, having a new baby, or encountering difficulties with their health are also common reasons.
They cost less.
When you adopt a pet, usually, they will be already neutered, had they’re first vaccinations and also microchipped, you will also get proffesional advice, especially if you are a first time pet owner. This will save you some initial costs.
Proud to brag
It has become popular for people to post pictures on social media with they’re pets, but not so common with a pet they just adopted. Why not post a selfie with the pet you just adopted and let the well-earned likes roll in.
It might even encourage someone else to adopt a pet and save another life.

It’s a way to fight against dog breeders.
Dog breeding is an unethical and irresponsible act, it’s just like any other trade, some have bad intensions some have good.
There are alot of pets in shelters, buying a pet means that these dog breeders will continue to stay in business. What do you know, you might even find your favorite breed in a shelter waiting for a home. Not excluding that there are many of dog breeders who genuinely love the animals, but that is not going to solve the problem with the overpopulation, especially when there are many pets in shelters awaiting for someone to take them home. Millions of dogs all over the world are euthanized every year due to lack of space in shelters.
